EASTERN NEWS
LITERARY AWARDS
In 1995, friends of Eastern News felt an urgent need to
recognize the growing population of the Urdu language writers
and poets in Canada and suggested to the owners of the
Eastern
News
to start Eastern News Awards.
For the past 18 years, Eastern News Awards (a plaque and some cash) are
talk of the town. Management struck a committee of noted and celebrated
Poets and Writers here in Canada to look for deserving candidates. The
Committee advertises these awards and look for nomination from the public.
One Award for Urdu literature and One Award for Urdu poetry is bestowed
upon the most deserving candidate each year.
